This morning upon awakening it was overcast and we actually had some rain during the morning. Temp was low 20s but the rain had stopped by early afternoon.
Jorge helped rescue another boat this morning that was dragging anchor with owners absent! Some boaters just don't know how to anchor, scary.
We dinghied into town just before noon. On our way down the channel to the Raw Bar (dinghy dock), we passed a manatee, so close to our dinghy we could almost touch it! It was huge. We didn't see the face but we saw the back and the tail. He was too fast or I was too slow with the camera, darn.
Our new weather modem had arrived and we bundled up the old one and sent it back. We also went to the Bluewater Chart store and bought the paper charts to and including Grenada. Unfortunately we are missing the Exumas chart of the Bahamas, the new addition had not yet arrived in the store. We have an older version but are now hoping to get the new version in Miami.
Upon returning to the boat, Jorge installed the new weather modem. After speaking with the tech guy, it seems the dealer forgot to activate it! Oh boy, that can't be done until Monday. However we can now make our way to Miami as hopefully everything else can be done over the phone.
Tomorrow will be a day of tidying up a few loose ends, laundry, putting the dinghy on the davits and saying good bye to fellow cruisers in the anchorage. We topped up with water via containers today, don't need fuel as we haven't gone anywhere in 2+ weeks since our last fill up and will wait until we get to No Name Harbour (just south of Miami) for a pumpout. We have to sail on the outside (Atlantic Ocean instead of the ICW) as there is a fixed bridge between here and Miami that is only 55'. We need that plus another 2' for the instruments and we are not willing to take a chance even with a low tide. Its about 23 nm so we only need good weather for about 5 hours. Once in No Name Harbour we will wait for the next weather window to jump to the Bahamas. Finally! We're excited to go but also reluctant as Ft. Lauderdale has been a wonderful stop.
