Oh my, the northerlies have arrived! It was on the cool side when we got up this morning, well okay +21C but the wind was quite cool. I know, I know, its not -20C so be thankful.
Jorge helped Hugh, a fellow Canadian cruiser from Peterborough, this morning in winching him up his mast to replace his radio antenna. I'm glad Jorge was doing the winching.
There is a small weather window opening for crossing to the Bahamas on Sunday/Monday of this coming week. Unfortunately we will not be ready for a couple of reasons. Firstly we are receiving (hopefully) a new modem for our weather system tomorrow. The company believes it might be a software problem. Secondly we are in Ft. Lauderdale and not Miami or further south so the crossing would not be as easy (the Gulf Stream would push us to a more northern destination than what we want). If things go okay with the modem, we will hopefully be able to leave for Miami on Sunday or Monday and then hurry up and wait (as Sue and Gord put it) for the next weather window.
One of the cruisers in the anchorage organized a happy hour at the Raw Bar at 1700 today. About 15 people attended and we had a great time. The general talk was about moving on. I guess now that the holidays are over most people are getting ready for their next adventure. Believe it or not, I wore jeans and a jacket and the bar had the outdoors heaters on the patio going!
We had Stefano and Helen over to the boat for dessert and coffee after happy hour. They are a great couple and we'll miss them as their plans are to go to Cuba, the Panama Canal and then make their way back to Australia.
Lights were out at 2130, a respectable time for cruisers.
