We took the water taxi to the marina at 1000. One of the propane bottles had run out of gas so that was our job today. The morning started out easy enough. We dropped off the laundry (that I didn't get done yesterday) as well as shower items in the boaters lounge to do later in the day. We walked up King Street (the main drag downtown) and had a Starbucks on an outdoor patio. Afterwards we visited a nearby art gallery. The propane refilling station was 3/4 of the way to the grocery store so we decided what the heck, we needed bottled water and pop and I spotted some specials I just couldn't pass up. We found out from the marina, the grocery store was 1.7 miles, one way. We arrived at the grocery store at lunch time so stopped in a small park to have a picnic lunch under the shade of some trees. Yes, we were looking for shade! Blue skies and temp around 27C.
On our way to the grocery store, we met a couple who have been cruising for 10 years. They spent a winter with Ross and Bev (aboard Raft) from Barrie in Grenada a few years back. What a small world!
Looking up a palm tree from the ground.
After groceries we walked to the propane station only to find out that they didn't refill tanks at that location - walk another 4 blocks north and 2 blocks east to the next station. When we got to that location, the manager filled our tank, looked at our groceries, obviously felt sorry for us and offered us a ride back to the marina which we gladly accepted! Once back at the marina, because we had accepted the ride back, we were ahead of schedule so we decided to walk to the Sailor's Exchange, about a mile one way. Yes, we are suckers for punishment - all this walking (good for my cardiac rehab!) We browsed but found nothing we needed. Before leaving for the Exchange, I put a load of laundry in knowing that it would be ready for the dryer when we returned.
When back at the marina, it was showers and finishing the laundry. It was then that we heard the news of Nelson Mandela's passing, a great loss of a giant. We watched a bit of the news of his passing on CNN in the boater's lounge.
Back on the boat it was supper and planning our departure tomorrow. Time to leave St. Augustine and continue south. Tomorrow night we will hopefully be in Daytona Beach.
