Holy cow! We’ve been gone a whole year!

August 2, 2014

We tried to get into the stadium this afternoon to see a competition of young steel band players but to no avail. The line up was not moving except for the pushing and shoving of people trying to get closer to the entrance. Jorge was beginning to get a meltdown while in line (usually it is me). It was hot, with the sun beating down on us, while standing on pavement. We decided to wait in the shade and watch the youngsters parade down the street and enter the stadium. We saw Gilbert and another cruiser leave the stadium, they were complaining it was too hot inside, standing room only and too crowded. The wives decided to stay. After about half an hour of waiting in the shade to see if the line was moving, we chose to leave and go to GYC. We had comfy chairs there, were in the shade, had a gentle breeze blowing and cold beers! There we met Gilbert and his friend and joined many other cruisers for an afternoon of relaxation.

The couple from France we had met the week previously invited us to join them at Grand Anse Beach for the afternoon. We gladly accepted. We spent an enjoyable afternoon swimming, having lunch seaside and practicing our French!

Unfortunately when we returned to our dinghies, just the other side of the dinghy dock which was well within sight, we discovered someone had been in both dinghies. Alain and Sylviane had sand all over and inside theirs. Jorge noticed the pouch underneath one of our seats was open and we had some expired flares and safety equipment removed from our bailing bucket (whistle, flag, rope). Jorge reported it to the police and completed a statement, not hoping to get anything back but just to make the police aware of the problem. Too bad, it had been a wonderful time up until that point.

We laid low most of the day until Alain came for a visit. (They are in Port Louis Marina.) He was having problems with his credit cards. Boy do we know that feeling well! His English is okay but when dealing with phone calls to another country in English, he was lost. He asked Jorge to help. We got to their boat, phoned his banking institute in Singapore and got things straightened out for them. Now they can use their credit and ATM cards. We enjoyed wine and appetizers with them afterwards. They were very grateful for our help.

The hand washing just wasn’t cutting it anymore. Time for a serious laundry day, LOL. That took up the whole afternoon at GYC. While the laundry was doing, we watched some t.v. and had chatted with a few cruisers at the bar.

Another gorgeous sunset.

We had made arrangements with Diana and Gilbert to meet at the bus terminal and visit Annandale Falls today for a picnic lunch and dinner afterwards to celebrate our 1 year anniversary. We should have visited these falls first as it was a bit of a disappointment after our hikes to the other falls. These falls were only a 5 minute walk, on paved road, to a very touristy spot. We walked past the falls, following the stream, found a nice spot for lunch and enjoyed our seclusion. Another Canadian cruiser, from Victoria, came along with Diana and Gilbert and the five of us has an enjoyable time.

We caught the bus back to St. George. Greg went his way. Jorge and Gilbert went to GYC. Diana and I went shopping and not grocery shopping. We went girl shopping! We checked out a couple of restaurants on the way back to GYC where we met up with the guys. While discussing our purchases and restaurants, lo and behold who should show up but Blair and Edith, from our home port of HYC! They had just arrived in Grenada that afternoon. They joined us for a drink but we had to cut the visit short as we were heading out for dinner. The restaurant we picked turned out to be an excellent choice. Tandoori and curry dishes which were delicious! We had a great dinner and chatted about the highs and lows of our trip so far. We all agreed it had been a lot of work preparing the boats, moving constantly against the wind and waves, seemingly always on the go, but happy and proud of ourselves that we had made it to Grenada!

Catching up on my blogging. This morning's rainbow. We had mostly rain today. Temp 27C but high humidity. Internet not working at all today. At Alain and Sylviane's boat using their internet. We are inviting them for sundowners today. Hopefully the rain will stop as we might get wet sitting in the cockpit and it will be way too warm to sit inside with the hatches and portholes closed!
