WE SURVIVED CARNIVAL IN GRENADA 2014

Part 1 - The morning (j'ouvert).

We woke up at 0430, well not really as we hardly slept because of the music from shore, everyone gearing up for the official start of carnival. We dinghied to GYC at 0500 and waited, island time, nothing starts on schedule down here. Between 0600 and 0630 the trucks with the music and participants started passing the yacht club.

Jorge and I really didn't understand part of the parade, the part where the participants painted themselves with used motor oil! The body paint was ok but really, used motor oil???

Foreign students attending Grenada university, taking part, waiting to get into the yacht club to catch the water taxi.

The speakers on the truck, yes the music was loud.

Just in case one runs out of oil, some people carry extra.

The silver group.

The purple group.

We didn't stay for the whole parade, opting to go back to the boat for breakfast and a morning siesta. The next part of Carnival starts this afternoon, time - well - we're in Grenada (Caribbean time) no one knows for sure!
